I don’t think so, Scooter. In fact, in certain circles revolver use is stronger than ever, but there are some nuances to consider. I just finished teaching a revolver school where the average age was 52 years young. The class was composed of 80 percent men and 20 percent women; 60 percent used .38/.357s and 40 percent used .45s. So, it would seem the revolver is favored by a slightly older group of people who, interestingly enough, are concerned with real marksmanship.

The perception revolvers are more reliable may actually be a reality. They’re not as sensitive as semi-autos to how they’re being held or to the effects of recoil. In the hands of people with injuries or strength issues, the revolver can often be made to fire even under stressful conditions, whereas an auto pistol might not cycle correctly, creating a stoppage or failure to fire.

Revolvers are also not effected when used in muzzle-contact situations. In fact, the contact wound from a revolver is probably a quarter to a third more dynamic, due to blast, gas emissions, etc. It’s probably wise not to underestimate a revolver used by you or an opponent.
