Yes, your spare magazine and tactical light may fit in your front pocket, rear pocket, or both, but they’ll be eminently more accessible if you put them in this DeSantis Backup Pouch. Attaching to my person via a well-designed paddle, I put a spare Glock 19 magazine in the front slot and Nightstick Tac-300 light in the back. Carrying as such on my weak side, the Backup Pouch offered more organized, faster access — no fumbling in a pocket. It also offered greater comfort and concealment as well as an easy-on, easy-off solution for backup gear I never regret having with me.

Plus the rig sort of balanced me out, putting some weight and tension on my weak side to counter the weight and tension of the gun on my strong side. With the Pouch riding at 9 o’clock, it concealed under an un-tucked shirt and my arm. But I preferred two shirts or one shirt plus one jacket to really hide it well. I could even adjust the cant of the paddle to point my gear accordingly, although it came from DeSantis with a slight forward cant, which was perfect.

The paddle, of course, allows you to slip this rig on in a second and off in about three seconds as you twist it to get past the very effective molded plastic lips which catch under your gun belt. Don’t like the paddle? Prefer to wear it on your belt? No prob — the plastic paddle unscrews from the leather carrier, leaving a typical belt slide attachment which actually draws the rig in just a bit closer, making it even easier to conceal. Other great features include good-looking, durable leather construction and two tension screws. Fits standard 9mm and .40 double-stack magazines and 1″ diameter flashlights. $49.99.
