Every now and then you get to meet a famous person, visit a significant historical place, or handle a very unique item, such as a custom made 1911. Today’s my day for the latter and in hand for a short stay is this Wilson Compact Carry (base price, $3,999). This is the kind of gun overflowing with features and promising to be a memorable experience.

This particular model is a 9mm with a 10+1 capacity. As for being a mostly Commander-sized 1911, its specs are familiar: barrel length: 4”; overall length: 7.6”; sight radius: 5.7”; height: 5.6”; and width: 1.3”.

As a full steel framed gun built for the Compact Carry Pistol division of the IDPA, its weight empty registers on my digital scale at 34.1 oz. and loaded at 40.1 oz. Once you see and handle its features you’ll appreciate how it is designed for maximum accuracy with quick followup shots. By the way, Wilson’s accuracy guarantee for the Compact Carry is 1.5″ at 25 yards.

There’ll be more to say about this Wilson after some range time and after carrying it concealed. So I’ll be calling into service some Wilson Combat 9mm ammo and a Blackhawk! CQC IWB holster.

In the meantime I’ll also be enjoying the 30 LPI checkered frontstrap, round butt magazine well, Cocobolo starburst grips, fluted chamber and barrel, and more. Great features, but I expect to forget about most of that stuff when I’m squeezing the trigger at the range, punching holes in paper targets. And that’s exactly what’s supposed to happen: All the individual features of a well-designed gun come together to help a shooter hit the target.

Check back here for a later report on what will probably be an unforgettable time at the range with the Wilson.
