The silver Aston Martin screeched to a halt in front of an abandoned warehouse. At least, it seemed to be abandoned. But Mitty knew better. Q’s tracking device had led him here so the thugs were here. Well-funded and sophisticated thugs, with their thermonuclear bomb that looked like a mobile phone, but thugs nonetheless. Mitty exited the Aston, eyes scanning the warehouse doors and windows, and leaned his head toward the car. “Stay right here, old girl. And try not to get shot.”

Drawing his trusty Walther, Mitty approached the main entrance.

He drew out another Walther pistol, this time a PPX and its spare magazine. A duty pistol for a street constable with a $449 MSRP. He didn’t want to like this new gun but he did. No one else knew it, though.

They all would find out soon enough.

And today, the PPX’s 16 rounds of 9mm seemed better than the PPK’s 6 rounds of .380.

Racking the slide, Mitty walked toward the warehouse door. It was time reveal his secret weapon.

We’ll get back to Mitty’s adventure in another article. For now, let me tell you just a bit more about the not-so-secret Walther PPX. After just one range session, I’m impressed mainly with the PPX’s fantastic trigger whose pull felt much lighter than the advertised 6.5 pounds. And it was so smooth. And short. With a very short reset. As such, I’m faster and more accurate with the PPX.

I’m also impressed with ergonomic grip. It may look a bit odd, especially in conjunction with the larger slide, but the two work in tandem to yield solid purchase, easy slide manipulation, and near perfect balance.

DSC_9310Heft a loaded PPX in your hand. You’ll wonder for a moment and then push the magazine release just to make sure the gun’s Italian made Mec-Gar magazine indeed is full. And it is. Sixteen rounds ready for duty. It just never seems to weigh as much as you think it would.

Add three built-in safeties and the durability of its Tenifer coated slide and it’s no secret: the PPX is a serious tool for serious work.

Oh, and Mitty? We’ll check in with him again later and see how the Walther PPX does long term and carried concealed.
