Jason Winnie’s grandfather is Don Hume. If you’ve been around, the name Don Hume will resonate as a long-time holster maker. And, his name will be more than enough to prompt you to get to know his grandson, Jason Winnie, also a holster maker.

If you don’t know Don Hume, then let me introduce you first to Jason Winnie — or, rather, one of his holsters — and then you can get to know Don.

If you carry a concealed gun you owe it to yourself to check out Jason’s J221 — a simple, yet profound IWB holster that retails for $64.99. It’s a high-quality, zero fuss, functional and beautiful holster meant for appendix carry but able to serve in other locations, too. I like appendix carry and the J221 does well in that role, but I really like this holster strong side. Four o’clock for me.

This particular Jason Winnie leathergood carries a Glock 43 and looks thick. And I guess it is, by some measure, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it. It carries low, too, allowing for deeper concealment. The steel clip grabbed my gun belt perfectly and the holster stayed in place despite my daily travels and errands which had me in and out of the car several times. I hid the gun and holster under a simple merino wool v-neck sweater.

Gun-in-holster fit scores a perfect 10, with plenty of friction to keep G43 in place yet gladly relinquishing it on demand. The smooth leather looks great and makes installation and removal of the holster from inside the waistband very easy. In other words, this is a great way to carry concealed for basic every day life.

Nice work, Jason. Just like Grandpa Don!
