Want to save big bucks by doing a lot of your 5.56mm carbine training with a .22 LR unit? The NC22 upper from Nordic Components will do it. True, there are some complete .22 LR packages out there, like the S&W M&P15-22, but, they’re extremely light, balance varies significantly from your 5.56 carbine, and most important to me (and probably you) is, it’s not your duty trigger. The NC22 takes care of that, mating easily with any mil-spec AR lower.
I selected the variant with an 18″, .750″ diameter barrel, for closest consistency with duty ARs. For example, my M&P15 MOE weighs 6 pounds, 7.2 ounces, and with the NC22 mounted the weight is 6 pounds, 10.2 ounces. Overall length is only 5/8″ longer. The balance point is unchanged, at the forward edge of the mag well. The NC22 feeds from high-quality Black Dog magazines, and I’ve had zero feeding or function problems.
This is an extremely accurate, precision-made flattop A3-style upper with a free-floated ventilated handguard. At an MSRP of $499, it can pay for itself quickly.
