“You’ll never carry a 2-1/2 pound gun, let a alone a gi-normous revolver. At least not well. Or not for long.”

And then the Smith & Wesson 686 Plus with a 3″ barrel arrived. Yep, seven rounds of .357 Magnum or .38 Special+P on board.

And I reminded myself: “Never say never.”

Perhaps, with a few accessories or slight changes, it could work.

And I’ve got performance ammo available for it by Sig Sauer. Which, admittedly, seems a bit backwards. I’ve fired .40 S&W ammo from a Sig Sauer pistol but I never thought I’d put Sig Sauer ammo through a Smith & Wesson revolver.

There’s that word, again…

So here’s the 686 Plus:

686-1

Three-inch barrel and round butt. More concealable, but it won’t be easy. The gun weighs over 2-1/2 pounds, unloaded.

686-3

Seven rounds on tap in one of the best trigger actions in the world. Might be worth every pound of weight and size…

686-4

And everything about this gun is as familiar as the back of your hand…

686-5

Seven rounds of Sig Sauer .38 Special +p. Three pair, one spare!

686-7

So, what do you think? Will it work? How should I accessorize?

And here’s something new: Text me a question or comment to let me know your thoughts on this article. If, with your comments, you include just your first name and your city and state, I’ll likely use your comment/question in a later roundup article. And no, I won’t publish your phone number! Ready?
