I expected the Bond Arms Patriot to be an interesting conversation piece, and a painful one at that.

Wrong.

Well, it is an interesting conversation piece. But firing two .410 shotshells out of it turned out to be not only a very manageable exercise but also a truckload of fun.

Here’s my range report, in pictures, of a short shooting session with the Patriot last weekend…

Doubt creeps in: Just how effective can one be with only two rounds? This Dirty Bird splattering target will help tell the story.

Break open the Patriot and load up! Two rounds of .410 is better than nothing … and not just for use against snakes.

“Okay,” I think to myself. “Two rounds of .410. A force to be reckoned with, as long as I can cock the gun and fire it fast enough.”

Note: Here’s where I put down the camera and actually fire off the two rounds at the target from a range of about 10 feet. What did it feel like, you ask? I’ll have to answer in some range of familiar terms: Not even close to the sting of an Airlite .357 Magnum revolver but close to the bark of a .45 1911. Two big pushes I respectfully acknowledged while a huge smile crept across my face. Cocking and aiming and firing and firing again — accurately — will take some practice but you’ll see what my first two shots did to the target. First, extracting the spent cartridges…

Two fired cartridges pop out with the help of a built-in extractor.

And the damage from two rounds fired.

For the record, I loaded and fired several more shots. And had an outrageous amount of fun doing so.
