SCAR Blades’ High Country
Fixed-Blade Handles
Hard Duty With Ease.

SCAR Blades is a relative newcomer to the tactical segment of the cutlery industry but the small company has sliced through the clutter and rapidly gained a fan base. Specializing in fixed-blades with no-nonsense high-carbon steel, SCAR produces affordable working knives made for heavy field use. Case in point, their High Country workhorse featured here.

Sometimes—and on all too rare an occasion—a tool or weapon has that innate feel of kinship the first time we pick it up. For me, the SCAR High Country is one of those. At 10.6 inches overall the High Country qualifies as a large knife, but feels very manageable in the hand thanks to a nice balance between the 4.4-inch blade and Linen Micarta handle (with a fits-like-a-glove feel). The top of the handle has a nice overhanging guard for finger protection and deep index finger groove for enhanced grip. The blade is a re-curved drop point, which will handle everything from chopping and slicing to skinning and food prep.

The High Country comes with a heat-formed Kydex sheath and for an extra 20 smackers SCAR will add a fire starter attachment like the one shown here. The High Country blade comes coated with a gray or black TufCoat finish. For an extra $10 you can have your way with a broad selection of Gunkote offerings from olive drab to hot pink. Handles are available in black or brown. Soup it up to your liking—I went with the olive drab Gunkote and brown handle. Inconspicuous in the woods—just how I like it. At $169.95 retail the High Country is worth every penny. For a few dollars more you can make it soar!
