GUNNY-swabits

I love cleaning guns — and I hate cleaning guns. The loves: I’ve probably been shooting, so that’s good. And I love a clean gun! The hates: I need to get all the crud out of every nook and cranny. And gun cleaning tools tend to be so hard they’re unable to carry any cleaning solution, or so soft they can’t effectively clean. Tough life, right?

Swab-its provide an effective middle ground for me. They make a myriad of gun cleaning tools which both carry solution and provide a firm cleaning head to get into hard-to-reach spots. I especially like the 9-Piece Cleaning Kit, a collection of overgrown, glorified cotton swabs.

Don’t stick these in your ear. Rather, dunk them in your favorite gun cleaning solvent and go to town on your gun, while following the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning. For a quick clean at the range, I like to run one of these over the feed ramp and in the corners of the breech and down the magazine well.

The Swab-it heads hold plenty of cleaning solution but you can use as much or as little as you like. The shape of the head allows for easy maneuvering, and the texture of the tough plastic foam allows it to easily get into corners where bristle brushes or standard cloths are useless. Swab-its are shed-resistant and fiber-free and you can wash them and use them again and again.

The 9-piece kit (retail $5.99) contains several sizes and lengths, all useful for a variety of swabbing tasks. I had wiped down this Bersa with a cotton rag just moments before hitting it with a Swab-it containing a few drops of Ballistol. As you can see, the Swab-it got right to work. The best part is the shape, making it easy to get into corners. For more info, www.swab-its.com, Ph: (413) 543-1442
