G2G-4

Over the past couple of years we’ve watched Nightstick lights get better, especially in developing “smart switches” for LE and EMS use. With the intro of their new Tac-540XL, it looks like they’ve got another winner.

The virtually silent tailcap control switches between momentary and constant-on modes. Tap once and you get a powerful 800-lumen center-spot beam with a broad flood penetrating out to 205 meters. Hold the switch down and it cycles through 350, then 140 lumens and then rises again. Just release pressure to stay at any level. Tap it quickly twice from any position and you get a blinding 600-lumen strobe. It’s a good, intuitive process for use under stress.

The 540XL has generous runtimes on two CR-123 lithium batteries, plus it’s dual-fuel: A charger and rechargeable battery are available options so you can run it both ways. It’s waterproof to one meter and shock-suppressed for 2-meter drops. It’s precision-machined from 6061 T-6 aluminum, is Type 3 hard anodized with a nice no-slip grip and anti-roll collar. This light’s Good2Go and sells for about $60. For more info: //americancop.com/company/nightstick-by-bayco-products-inc/
